Saudi Arabia’s rail network transported more than 45m passengers in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring growing demand for rail as a safe and high-quality mode of transport across the Kingdom.
Data released by the Transport General Authority (TGA) highlights the rapid expansion of both urban and intercity rail services, alongside increasing freight volumes supporting national logistics and supply chains.
Urban rail systems accounted for the majority of passengers, carrying 42 million travellers during the quarter.
The Riyadh Train recorded the highest usage with 31 million passengers, followed by the automated people mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah with around 10 million passengers.
The automated people mover at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University transported approximately 621,000 passengers during the same period. More
