Bahrain finalises routes for Phase I of its Metro project, detailing lines, stations, costs and integration plans as preparations accelerate
Detailed preparations are advancing for the first phase of Bahrain’s long-planned Metro project, with route planning now the central focus as authorities move towards delivery of a modern public transport system for the kingdom.
Responding to a parliamentary question, the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry confirmed that Phase I routes are being developed in line with the approved master plan, marking a key technical milestone for the project.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa described the metro as a strategic national investment that will reshape urban mobility.
He commented that the Bahrain Metro is designed to deliver a modern, efficient and sustainable transport system, with detailed planning and integrated procedures underway to ensure optimal preparation of the first-phase routes in coordination with all relevant entities.
Two main corridors anchor phase one
According to the ministry, Phase I will comprise two core metro lines aimed at serving major residential, commercial and economic districts across Bahrain.
The first corridor will link Bahrain International Airport with the Seef District, connecting the country’s primary aviation gateway to one of its most active business and retail zones. More
