The Riyadh Public Transport Authority declared that from Saturday to Thursday every week, Riyadh Metro will start operations at 5.30am and end at midnight. The operating hours for Friday will be from 10am to midnight.

As for Riyadh buses, they will operate daily from 5am until midnight to meet the needs of commuters.

The change in timings has come as a result of an increase in demand for metro rides, in order to facilitate movement for students, employees, and early morning commuters.

This new move will help reduce dependence on private vehicles, thereby easing traffic congestion during morning rush hour.

Riyadh Metro Red Line extension

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has announced the Red Line Extension Project for the Riyadh Metro, which will connect the existing line from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project.

According to a report, the Riyadh Metro Red Line (line 2) will be extended by 8.4 km and will include five new stations. The extended Riyadh Metro Red Line will connect important locations like Medical City and Historic Diriyah. The extension will also enhance connectivity among residential communities, educational institutions, and cultural and healthcare centres.

The new extension includes the construction of 7.1 km of underground tunnels and 1.3 km of elevated tracks. Two stations will be located at King Saud University, with one serving the medical city and health colleges and the other serving the university concourse. Three additional stations will be located in Diriyah, including one planned as a future interchange with Line 7.

The project is scheduled for completion in approximately six years.

The other stations offering park and ride facilities are Ad Dar Al Baida, Al Hamra, An Naseem, Ar Rabi, Jeddah Road, Princess Nourah University 2, SAB, and Sultanah.

Parking for the first 12 hours is free, after which it is charged at SAR 10 per hour.
