Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Development Authority – the body behind the kingdom’s $23bn (SAR86.3bn) Riyadh Metro megaproject – has been made a Royal Commission and renamed Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh, following the issuance of a Royal Order.

All tasks related to major national projects in Riyadh will be transferred from Committee of Major National Projects to Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh.

The commission will have a board of directors chaired by the deputy prime minister, and its members will be appointed by the order of the prime minister.

The Royal Decree No. (74166) was issued on 30 August, and stipulated that members of the board of directors of Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh would include the Governor of Riyadh Region; Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior; and Deputy Governor of Riyadh Region.

Also on the board of Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh are Saudi Arabia’s Ministers of Commerce and Investment; Municipal and Rural Affairs; Environment, Water, and Agriculture, who is also chairman of National Water Company’s Board; Finance; Communications and Information Technology; Transport; Economy and Planning; and Industry and Mineral Resources.

Mayor of Riyadh Region, Eng Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, and the chairman of Saudi Electricity Company’s board of directors, will also sit on the board of Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh. More
