MUSCAT : Oman’s proposed Muscat Metro route will begin from Sultan Haitham City and extend to Ruwi over a distance of 55 kilometres, featuring 42 stations and seven major transit hubs across the capital, according to Yaqoub Al-Harthy, Project Director of the Greater Muscat Structural Plan.
Speaking to The Arabian Stories during the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning’s media dialogue, Al-Harthy outlined the route studied under the approved Greater Muscat Structural Master Plan, offering one of the clearest pictures yet of how the future rail network could move through the city.
The metro line will initially run along Sultan Qaboos Street from Sultan Haitham City to the Al Sahwa Tower intersection, one of Muscat’s busiest transport junctions.
From Al Sahwa Tower, the route will shift onto Street 99, continuing toward the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque area before reconnecting with Sultan Qaboos Street and proceeding all the way to Ruwi, the capital’s historic commercial district.
The network is planned to include seven major interchange hubs spread across key urban areas including Sultan Haitham City, Al Sahwa Tower, Ghala, Al Khuwair, Al Qurm and Ruwi, creating connections between residential, business and commercial zones.
“This is the route that was studied within the structural master plan,” Al-Harthy added.
The proposed metro project forms part of broader plans to transform mobility in Greater Muscat as the city expands through new urban developments and rising population growth. More
