Saudi Arabia is reportedly studying the implementation of a sea taxi service, Corniche Tram, and Obhur Suspension Bridge – planned as one of the world’s widest concrete suspension bridges – according to chairman of Jeddah Metro Company, Dr Osama Abdu.

Local daily Saudi Gazette reported that a contract had been implemented to conduct feasibility and financial studies for the projects.

Private-sector participation in project implementation was also being reviewed.

Approval has been granted to implement the studies, Abdu said, adding that a feasibility study is under way for Obhur Suspension Bridge.

“The Obhur Suspension Bridge project is one of the most important projects in Jeddah’s public transport system and it will connect north and south Obhur, passing over Sharm Obhur with a length of 350m and width of 74m,” Abdu said. More
