Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh Al-Jasser, confirmed an earlier announcement by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) that the Riyadh Metro will OPEN by the end of 2024.
The Metro is likely to be a game-changer for Riyadh’s citizens and visitors, and comes at the right time for the city. Hosts Hanaa and Lucien discuss the project and why its delayed launch is actually standard for such transportation infrastructure projects around the world – and why the wait will be worth it.
The metro is the largest in the world rolled out in a single phase, Al-Jasser said. At an estimated cost of $22.5 billion, the metro has six metro lines, 84 stations, 80 bus routes, and 842 buses spread across 2,860 stops Combined, the transport network and infrastructure will have a passenger capacity of 1.7m passengers per day in the initial operation phase. The network will be connected to King Khalid International Airport and King Abdullah Financial District, the main universities, downtown Riyadh, and the public transport center. The metro will have: The Blue line: Axis of Al-Olaya – Al-Batha – Al-Hayer roads, with a total length of 38km Red line: Axis of King Abdullah Road, with a total length of 25.3km Orange line: Axis of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Road – Prince Saad Bin Abdurrahman I Road, with a total length of 40.7km Yellow line: Axis of King Khalid International Airport Road, with a total length of 29.6km Green line: Axis of King Abdulaziz Road, with a total length of 12.9km Violet line: Axis of Abdurrahman Bin Awf Road – Sheikh Hassan Bin Hussain Bin Ali Road, with a total length of 30km Subscribe for free wherever you get your podcasts: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0uuKNWr… Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast… YouTube: / @thetwenty30 Get episodes and exclusive content delivered to your email inbox free: https://thetwenty30.com You can also email the show’s hosts with their first names (Lucien @TheTWENTY30.com) or (Hanaa @thetwenty30.com) or email Hosts @ TheTwenty30.com.
