There are no plans to scale back the Riyadh Metro projects despite the Saudi government clampdown on spending amid low oil revenues, said a report.

Work on the multibillion riyal Riyadh Metro is 30 percent complete and on schedule, according to the region’s governor Prince Faisal bin Bandar.

Construction work has started on a major new hotel and apartments complex in the Diplomatic Quarter of Riyadh, developer Dur Hospitality has announced.

The $23 billion Riyadh Metro will be completed on schedule in 2019 and its budget is ring-fenced, a senior official said on Wednesday, quashing speculation the project could be scaled back or delayed following a slump in Saudi Arabia's oil revenues.

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) will provide 700 megawatts (MW) of electricity for the Riyadh Metro and Haramain Railway projects.
