The Municipal Council of Riyadh is considering the introduction of segregated areas on Riyadh Metro.

2Among the proposals put forward by members of the council was that carriages on the trains should be reserved for women-only.

Riyadh Metro, which is being built as part of the city’s $22.5 billion urban rail and bus project, could include three types of cars – an executive class, a class for families, and a class for individuals – a local newspaper has reported.

Riyadh metro will have six lines covering 176km, which will be supported by a bus network of 1,150 km.

About 40 percent of the system will be underground.

Once operational, the metro is expected to create 23,000 jobs for citizens during the construction and operation phases. More info
